Get ready for a milder winter, New Yorkers.
AccuWeather meteorologists have revealed their 2024-25 winter forecast, and, similar to last year, the season is expected to feel less harsh than usual, according to Brian Lada, an AccuWeather meteorologist. However, don’t put away your winter gear just yet! New Yorkers should still expect snow, likely more than last year, along with occasional extreme bone-chilling temperatures.
“Waves of frigid air will periodically bring freezing conditions across the country, along with increased chances for snow,” Lada explained.
A weak La Niña, a natural climate phenomenon, is expected to dominate much of the winter, introducing more weather variability. Additionally, the unusually warm waters in the Gulf of Mexico, which fueled powerful hurricanes this fall, could lead to milder air masses in parts of the central and eastern U.S.
