Romanticizing Life

I always wondered: “why isn’t my life like the movies?” “Well, it’s because I'm 'too busy’ with other things.” No! That's not the truth. You don’t need to clear your schedule to romanticize your life. You don’t need to have a special occasion. You can do this everyday and trust me, it’s the most beautiful thing ever. Romanticizing your life involves adding a touch of magic and beauty to everyday experiences. And here are 7 tips on how to:
Aesthetic Pleasures: In the movies, we can see that many scenes make us feel different emotions with a little touch of Original Soundtracks (OSTs). Why don’t we surround ourselves with OSTs too! Take a speaker and play background music in your room; it doesn't necessarily need to be loud. Enjoy the soothing sound and play pretend. You can decorate your bedroom with small lights to add an aesthetic touch. Light up incense or scented candles to make your room appear cozy. Add anything that makes you pleased.
Daily habits and Inspiration: Start journaling to feel the time. The best time to journal is at night. Late night journals hold more truths than day because at night, your brain can reflect on the day you just had. Journal about anything! Your feelings, your struggles, how your day went, the coffee you got in the morning; how did it taste, do you like it?, write about a memory, something you want to try, write a fictional story, write about that one person you keep thinking about. Or you can junk journal, take small scraps of paper, labels, receipts, pamphlets, stickers you find in the day and piece them together to tell a story.
You can try poetry. It exposes you to different emotions and an understanding of human life. Nowadays there are people who share their own poetry on online platforms such as TikTok or Instagram. Reciting poetry is art itself, like a song without rhythm. Or, read a book to jump into different worlds created by the words on the page and your pure imagination. You know a fun fact? It’s the fact that people imagine things differently. Which means, if two people are reading the same book, those two people will have two different worlds built and characters developed. Which is also why some fans get disappointed when a movie adaption takes place. Now that’s a beauty to think of.
Experiences: Live in the moment. Now that the weather is getting chilly, it’s a great time to get hit by the fresh breeze. Just wake up early one day (don’t make your alarm wake you up; it’s traumatizing) and watch the sunrise. Let the cold air touch your face and let it play with your hair. Breathe in the morning scent and feel your mind. Since it’s currently Fall, take a walk in the evening time so you can catch the sunset. Imagine the rays of the sun kissing your face, the red, orange, yellow leaves under your feet as you walk and you see the sky changing colors, the clouds shaping differently. Watch the trees dance and listen to them sing.
Connections: Go for an unplanned date with your best friends. Have a small picnic, go to the theater, bake brownies or even have a deep conversation! Socialize, romanticize life, and capture the stories of your low-key vibe! And for my non-socializing people, fret not! Your part is coming up next. Connect with yourself. Do something you like. Ride a bike, paint, cook or watch your favorite shows and movies. You don't need much to keep yourself entertained, now do ya?
Self care: This is very important. Prioritize your worth. Nobody will love you if you don’t love yourself first. It doesn’t take much, really. Reward yourself with little treats. Turn your regular shower into a spa day once in a while, (i’m not talking about everything shower) add a bubble bomb or light up some scented candles and add rose petals. Oh! you can add your little rubber ducky too!! Dress yourself with that outfit you had in mind without any reason, on a random day; even if just to sit still and look pretty.
Personal Growth: Learn something new everyday. Create a passion board. It doesn’t need to be a board. You can turn it into a scrapbook. You can look back to it and have your memories refreshed. Find beauty in mundane tasks. Washing the dishes may be boring but humming a song while doing house work is not so boring after all, especially when you’re home alone. Dance and sing your heart out while doing work. It’s a great mood lifter. Learn to love your imperfections. Let your hair be messy one day. So what? Nobody will remember your messy hair because the strangers in the streets probably won't see you again. Not everything is going to go how you imagined it. It's a rule of life. So, we can’t be upset about it. Be carefree, not careless.
Mindset Shifts: Live in the moment. Look around you, there are so many things that go unnoticed. Count five things that are in the same color. What song are you listening to? What time is it? Sit somewhere, in a park or a city but just sit somewhere where people are and take your time to observe those little things they are doing (don’t stare at them; it's weird). Sitting there observing will make you realize “something”. I won’t tell you what you might realize because I want you to try it. Face your fears. Wear that bold lipstick which you thought was overpowered. Approach your life from a different perspective. Do you like it? If not, then start working for the life you want. You are the main character of your life. Lead the life your younger self always looked up to. Let yourself become the reason you smile.
When you get old, don’t look back in regret saying “Life wasn’t as beautiful as I thought it would be.” Your life is yours. Who knows if you’re ever gonna get it back, so don’t just exist; live.
