Baltimore Bridge Accident

By Robin Mukhram & Austin Scott

March 26, 2024, early Tuesday morning, the Francis Scott Key bridge was hit by a cargo ship, causing major damage to the bridge which inevitably made the bridge collapse.

The Baltimore bridge was finished and opened to the public back on March 23, 1977. The bridge was made because people needed another harbor point due to traffic on other bridges.

Early Tuesday morning before the commute was to get underway, a MV dali container ship had electrical problems, which led to the ship having no power, hit one of the piers holding the bridge which was enough to make the bridge collapse. Several workers passed away, along with 2 civilians, and more than 20 cars were dropped in the ocean.

The collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore has created enormous repercussions throughout the region and the country, including the closure of one of the nation's most important seaports, the loss of thousands of jobs, and the loss of mobility for millions of people.
