As the graduating high school class of 2025 prepares themselves for the upcoming senior year, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and lost by the amount of responsibility and work that will be required in just a couple of months. I have listed five tips/things that you should be doing over the summer that will help decrease any stress you may feel during your 12th grade year.
1.Start getting together a list of colleges you can see yourself applying to.
During the summer is the perfect time to start researching colleges, using factors like location, costs, majors, etc. to determine which ones suit you. To go the extra step, look up online if any schools are providing in-person tours and try to schedule one.
2.Choose any extracurriculars that are meaningful to you or made an impact on your life that you want to put on your application.
When applying for college, you are allowed to choose 10 extracurriculars to speak on. Reflect on any sports, clubs, volunteer work, jobs, internships, or even hobbies that you’ve done throughout your years in high school and choose from the pick.
3.Try to get a job or an internship to do over the summer.
If you feel that you are lacking in extracurriculars, getting a job or internship for the summer would very much boost your application. While many find outside jobs where they are working for someone else, it is important to realize that you can also start up a business yourself.
4.Prepare to Get Letters of Recommendation.
Although it might seem early, now is a great time to start figuring out what teachers you want to get your recommendation letters from. Usually it should be a teacher who you’ve formed a connection with over the year, or if they teach something that is similar to your career field.
5.Start brainstorming ideas for your college essay.
Many colleges require you to write more than one essay in order to apply, which can leave you with a lot of work if you’re planning on applying to multiple schools. The best thing to do is to look up prompts online and strengthen your writing skills so you can be prepared.
