Scientology was founded by L. Ron Hubbard in December 1953. It began in Camden, New Jersey. Hubbard, a science fiction writer, originally introduced Scientology through his book “Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health” in 1950. This book laid the groundwork for the movement, focusing on the idea that mental health could be improved through specific techniques.
Over time, it evolved into a full-fledged religion with its own practices, beliefs, and organization. Scientology emphasizes personal development and spiritual growth, and it has a unique structure with various levels of memberships. It’s been a bit controversial over the years with lots of discussions around its practices and beliefs.
Scientology is a belief that humans are immortal and that we are spiritual beings living in human bodies. You can refer to someone who believes in Scientology as a Scientologist. Scientologists do not believe in hell or heaven however, they do believe in reincarnation.
Celebrities who practice Scientology include
Tom Cruise
Nancy Cartwright
Priscilla Presley
Danny Masterson
Elisabeth Moss
Marisol Nichols
Alanna Masterson
Scientology does not have a good record. People who have previously been a part of Scientology often belittle it. Those who are a part of Scientology usually lose connection with their family members because they aren’t allowed to communicate with anyone who isn't a part of Scientology. The church isolates their members making it difficult for them to leave. The Church of Scientology has been accused of human trafficking, using children as young as 10 years old to do labor and getting little sleeping hours. Danny Masterson(who starred on That‘70s show) was sentenced to 30 years in prison for raping two women, and the church was accused of helping cover it up. Multiple women that are victims of rape took a long time to come out because the church did not encourage them to report the crime to the police. Some governments and former followers often call The Church of Scientology a cult.
