For the past five years, Mrs.Marcus has been teaching AP Government & Politics and U.S. History here at Hillcrest High School. She has also taught Government and Economics in the past. Her SLC is Public Service and Law.
Her passion for History started in her early years when her mom, who was a librarian, read her stories about the Titanic and different wars. They always watched the History Channel together, and that is why Mrs.Marcus has always enjoyed learning new historical stories. Her lifelong passion for history led her to pursue it further at SUNY Cortland, which is a really great college for people who want to teach history. Before she became one of the best history teachers, she had a few jobs, including working as a waitress and later, as a dental assistant. However, from childhood, Mrs.Marcus did not want to do anything else besides being a professional female baseball player or astronaut but her realistic career was always a teacher.
Outside the classroom, Mrs.Marcus is a wife and a mother of two little boys, ages 10 and 7. Balancing her personal life and career as a teacher was a real struggle for Mrs.Marcus, however, she has learned how to manage it. She makes a conscious effort to focus on family time at home, and finishing all work during her lunch or any free time that she has during school. She shares, “I really try to limit the amount of work that I have to take home unless it is absolutely necessary and impressive for the next day. I do not like to socialize that much, so, I try to get as much work as I can during the day and do not bring it home.”
Her personal hobbies include reading, especially thrillers, and exercising, both of which she considers the best way to have more energy to deal with her children. Mrs. Marcus does like to watch TV, but her children tend to enjoy and control it anyway. She prioritizes staying active as much as possible because she believes that these activities keep her more positive. Moreover, Mrs. Marcus is a huge fan of a wide variety of music, from Rock and Pop music to the occasional country tune.
When it comes to travel, Mrs. Marcus has visited a lot of European countries such as Spain, Italy, and France. She noted that not only the great history of these countries attracts her, but the food is also pretty delicious. In the future, she desires to explore places like South America, Machu Picchu, England, Ireland, and the Great Wall of China.
As a teacher, she suggests the students at Hillcrest High School to “Get off your phones and live your life.”
