Mr. Meichsner is currently a History teacher and an Assistant Principal who has been a part of Hillcrest High School for 16 years. He started out as a History teacher and became a Director for the formerly named Theater, now APVA SLC in his first few years. Eight years ago, he became the Assistant Principal for the Social Studies department. He is currently a part of the Teachers of Tomorrow SLC.
Mr. Meichsner was inspired to become a teacher because he wanted to help students. Mr. Meichsner wanted to become a history teacher because he loves history. He loves watching history documentaries and visiting historical sites because it's interesting to him how people lived before us. He enjoys working with students to get them on the right path for success in their studies and have a bright future. However, that role shifted slightly as he became an Assistant Principal, because now he works with other administrators and teachers in the building.
As an Assistant Principal, that role comes with challenges such as time management. When asked how do you manage time as an Assistant Principal and working in the classroom he mentioned how “Time management is key for this job.” In order to manage his time, he sets his schedule from the day before and prioritizes the tasks that need to be completed. One thing he learned about the position is that the best plans could change at any moment so adapting to those changes help him overcome this challenge. “The key is knowing what to prioritize, what needs to get done, and always putting the students first.”
When asked what advice he would give to the students at Hillcrest he stated “Hard work matters. You should always strive to push yourself to the best of your abilities.”
