October is a month where popular events occur. It presents the season of fall and the holiday it’s most known for, Halloween. As the anticipation for Halloween grows, more people become excited to celebrate. Showing the festive spirit that October presents, there are many different ways to celebrate this holiday. Even for those who don’t celebrate Halloween, October sets a cozy feeling for people who experience fall in their area. October doesn’t have a limit as to what people can embrace this season as it presents things to do for both people who celebrate the holidays in this month and those who don’t.
Bored in Queens?
Fall opens up many different opportunities to embrace the feeling of comfort. Many seasonal activities are held for people to embrace the season. They are even available in Queens so that the students of Hillcrest can access them. There are activities available at the Queens County Farm Museum like pumpkin picking, corn mazes, and hayrides. Admission for this museum is free of charge on non event days. They provide their restrictions, guidelines, and rules on their website at queensfarm.org.
What this season is most known for would be Halloween. It provides a festive spirit for all people to celebrate. Ways of celebration that are available in Queens would be the Bayville Scream Park. It provides visitors with 5 different haunted houses such as the Bayville Asylum, Uncle Needle’s Funhouse of Fear in 3D, Bloodworth Haunted Mansion, The Cage, and The Temple of Terror. A new feature added for October 2025 is the outdoor trail combat experience called Evil in the Woods. It is a scary experience that calls for walking down an outdoor trail with the actors in character to give it the sense of lurking creatures and monsters. You will be provided with a ball blaster to give the adrenaline induced feeling of shooting real monsters. In addition to these events, Bayville Scream Park also has three Halloween themed restaurants for visitors which can be viewed on bayvillescreampark.com.
If students at Hillcrest aren’t looking for big events to attend for fall and Halloween, there are other subtle activities. Experiences that still make it possible to feel the cozy vibes of Fall would be crafts like painting pumpkins with friends, baking competitions, DIY costume making, and taking a walk. This provides an opportunity for people to embrace the settings of fall with the fallen orange leaves and the cold weather. Other possible activities for people who aren’t fond of leaving their homes and being active is watching movies. Movie suggestions would be a classic like Hocus Pocus, Edward Scissorhands, Matilda, Caroline, Monster House, or horror movies.
Seasonal Foods
Specific seasons set the mood for specific foods to be enjoyed. Seasonal foods can add on to the comfortable feeling of Fall. Foods like caramel apples, pumpkin flavored treats and drinks, thanksgiving dinners, and more. Cafes set the mood just right for a relaxing time while enjoying drinks and baked sweets. Popular menu items in bakeries at this time of season would be pies, muffins, and fall flavored drinks.
