The music genres Rap and Hip-hop have been a big part of black culture since the 1970s, originating in Bronx, New York. Rap and Hip-hop were predominately male music genres with legends such as 2pac, Biggie Smalls, Kanye West, etc. In the 2010s, 2 Hip-hop rappers known as Nicki Minaj and Cardi B changed the industry for all female artists. In 2018 however, both rappers had a physical altercation with one another at New York’s Fashion Week, after collaborating on a song together a year prior. Since then, the two have been in online disputes over the years and most recently in September of this year.

Motorsport (2017)
In November of 2017, the music group “Migos” (Members: Offset, Quavo, and Takeoff) featured both Nicki Minaj and Cardi B to be on their upcoming album “Culture ll” with the song “Motorsport.” In which, both rappers accepted, and were featured in the song. Fans speculated that both rappers had issues with one another prior to Motorsport, in which both Minaj and Cardi denied any rivalry towards each other. On November 28, 2017, Cardi B was interviewed by radio station “Capxtra.” In which they asked about Motorsport and about Nicki Minaj:
“Well, you know when I heard the track, her verse wasn’t finished or well it’s not the verse that is on right now.” - Cardi B
After this interview, fans speculated that Cardi B had given Nicki a backhanded compliment from her response to Motorsport. At first, Nicki did not comment on what Cardi or what Migos had said about her verse until April 2018, when she was interviewed on a radio show. Interviewed by Zane Lowe on “Beats 1”, Nicki was asked if she had addressed the rumor about her dissing Cardi B in Motorsport. In which she said:
“The first interview she did when Motorsport first came out—it really hurt me. Cause she looked so aggravated and angry…I kinda felt ambushed…just to paint Nicki as the bad person so that you could play victim.. that really hurt me.” - Nicki Minaj
Afterwards, Nicki went to Twitter to address the rumors with Cardi B and her involvement in the song Motorsport collab with Migos. Cardi B responded back to Minaj stating that it was “made up beef” and stated that she doesn’t have any issue with Minaj.
New York Fashion Week (2018)
On September 7th, 2018 both Nicki Minaj and Cardi B went to “New York Fashion Week” as guests. Prior to NYC Fashion Week, Cardi B had both released her first album “Invasion of Privacy” and had her first daughter, Kulture, with rapper Offset in July 2018. Within the night of NYC Fashion Week, Cardi B went up to Nicki’s table and accused her of judging her parenting skills towards her daughter, to which Nicki denied those claims. Later within the night, Cardi B threw her own shoe towards Minaj and attacked her first. After being escorted out of the NYC Fashion Week party, it was seen that Cardi B had a bump on her eyebrow to which she states that it wasn’t from Nicki but was from Nicki’s security guards.
Bringing up Children Now?
The beef between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj only escalated things forward when the mention of children came into play. Nicki Minaj started tweeting many things towards Cardi B’s pregnancy.
To in which, Cardi B replied, asking why is she bringing up her pregnancy for the 3rd time, even when it has nothing to do with Minaj.
Back-Handed Apologies?
After the feud between both rappers and bringing up each other's children, Nicki Minaj went onto twitter once more to give Cardi B’s daughter Kulture an apology. Minaj apologized to the 7 year old explaining how she brought her name up for a “bigger purpose”. Both fans and Cardi B herself believe that it was a backhanded apology towards the 7 year old in which Minaj did not respond about the accusation.
In response to Nicki’s apology, Cardi B also apologized to Nicki’s son Papa Bear. She apologized to the 5 year old boy about how his mother gives her more attention to her than to him.
Since the apologies from both rappers towards their children, Cardi B hasn’t tweeted anything towards Nicki Minaj, only saying that she refuses to let Nicki flip the narrative. In the meantime, Nicki has been making tweets towards Cardi, Desiree Perez and Jay Z. Still referring to Cardi B as “Barney B” as well. She’s also made promoting posts about possibly a diss track towards them on March 27th, 2026.
