The Labubu doll is a popular collectible plush monster like toy with pointy ears and a mischievous grin. Created by Hong Kong artist Kasing lung, it was produced by the chinese company Pop Mart.
The person who made the Labubu dolls is a global sensation Lisa, from the popular K-pop group, BLACKPINK. She featured a Labubu charm on her Instagram in April of 2024, sparking the massive social media trends.
The Labubu was made by artist Kaising Ling for the 2015 picture book series “The Monsters”, drawing inspiration from Nordic folklore and European fairy tales.
While Labubu’s are considered a cool accessory, many people think that they are haunted and resemble the pazuzu, a powerful paradoxical demon from ancient Assyrian and Babylonian mythology.
In season 28 of “The Simpsons”, in the segment “The Treehouse of Horror XXVII,” a statue of the pazuzu was discovered in a pre-Christian temple site in Northern Iraq. It was then delivered via Amazon to the Simpson house because Homer ordered the statue thinking it was pizza. It was put in Maggie's room as decoration and briefly possessed Homer who sang a song about the demon. Then the pazuzu soul came out of the statue and possessed Maggie, turning her into an evil demon who terrorized the house party and killed several people. Based on this show alone many people believe the predictions that the Labubu dolls are haunted are true because the Simpsons are known to predict future events.
Overall, the Labubus dolls are still popular and a trendy staple for people all around the world.
