Coraline is a kids supernatural fantasy horror movie that came out in 2009. The movie was written and directed by Henry Selic based on the 2002 novella by Neil Gaiman. This supernatural movie is about a girl who moves into a new house, and while she is exploring the new house she discovers a secret door. Behind that secret door is an alternative world that mirrors her own, but in many ways can be different. She takes action to explore her discovery and goes through the door. She comes across the other mother who is the “better” version of her real mother. She would give Coraline the best of things that Coraline did not have in her real world, up until she gave Coraline an ultimatum. That ultimatum was Coraline could stay in that fantasy world forever, only if she would let the other mother sew buttons into her eyes. Coraline refuses to let the other mother sew buttons into her eyes, so the other mother reveals herself as a witch who imprisons Coraline's real parents and attempts to trap Coraline forever, trying to replace her eyes with buttons to steal her soul. Coraline must use her resourcefulness and bravery to outwit the witch, find the souls of the witch's other child victims, rescue her parents, and escape back to her own world, ultimately learning to appreciate the imperfect reality of her true life.
