A huge comeback has been set for Marvel characters. The teaser of the new Avengers: Doomsday movie has been announced during late December 2025 and early January 2026, showing the return of characters such as Paul Rudd’s Ant- Man, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, and Chris Hemsworth's Thor. The most shocking reveal for fans during comic con was the return of Chris Evans' Captain America and Robert Downey Jr., as he would be playing a villain called Doctor Doom instead of his iconic Iron Man. There will also be crossovers of popular super hero groups like the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. There have been claims that Tom Holland's Spider-Man could possibly be absent in the movie as he is filming his own movie called Spider-Man: Brand New Day that comes out on July 31, 2026. The Avengers Doomsday movie is said to come out on December 18, 2026.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe had claimed that after 37 films, they had a “superhero fatigue” in late 2025 that needed to be fixed. They have been receiving lukewarm reviews and random moments of success. Things got even more messy when the actor Jonathan Majors had a domestic assault conviction against his then-girlfriend from early December. This was an issue because he was supposed to star as the main villain, Kang the Conqueror, in the new movie Avengers: Doomsday. This then led to Marvel changing the main villain entirely, making Doctor Doom played by Robert Downey Jr. This shocked the fans because he was well known for his role as Iron Man in 10 movies and his return wasn’t expected as Iron Man has died in the film Endgame (2023).
Chris Evans' Captain America's return in this movie was also unexpected as he had a send-off in the Avengers Endgame film, where he retired from superheroics. The last time the Avengers were all seen as a group was in the Avengers Endgame movie in 2019. Avengers: Doomsday brings back their dynamic again, leaving fans with exciting anticipation.
