Low-rise, hobo bags, bedazzled jewelry, and chunky highlights. These are all things us fashion guru’s strive for in our personal collections. As a result of this, thrifting has come back. Fashion icons all over the world scour through piles and piles of clothing determined to win the lottery pot that has become 2000’s fashion. Brands like Hollister, Abercrombie and Fitch, as well as Juicy Couture have brought back their iconic 2000’s collections. Recently for their 25th anniversary, Hollister in particular participated in this trend by launching their own version of the 2000’s era - “Y2K Capsule Collection” including but not limited to babydoll tops, lace camisoles, cable knit sweaters, low rise and ultra low rise bottoms. Making it the perfect throwback, engaging a new generation.
Now this era is referred to as the “Y2K fashion revival.” With this collection came the trends. Back in fashion came swapping out our cellular devices for digital cameras, layering, and most importantly the love for 2000’s It-Girl film and television resurfaced. This includes Mean Girls, The Notebook, The Princess Dairies, The Devil Wears Prada and my personal favorite Legally Blonde. With these films, teenagers begin to appreciate and incorporate the 2000’s style into their own lifestyles making it the “Y2K aesthetic.” Fashion icons like Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and Beyoncé are the inspiration behind this revival. Now in 2026, young adults can be seen wearing this style as a form of self expression with the bedazzled jeans and the vintage purses. So, next time you're in front of the closet debating on what to wear, remember this fashion era and try some pieces because it really was one to die for.
