Superintendent Visit:
Today we welcome Superintendent Robert Hernandez to our school community as part of his "visiting tour". He is expected to arrive at the school at 12:45 pm and will be touring the building and visiting classrooms. Please proceed with the rich, comprehensive, explicit instruction that you provide everyday and when you see him, give him a hearty 246 welcome!
I-READY DATA
It is an expectation that every class in grades 1 - 5 hits the minimum benchmark of students logging on to I-Ready (45 minutes with 80% passing rate) during the specified times outlined in each grades respective flow of the day. The below is the number of minutes each grade did last week in ELA and math. At this point no grade in its entirety has hit the weekly target for all of their students but some individual classes have made marked progress and will be celebrated each Monday during morning message and during PBIS celebrations.
If you are having technology issues, please alert administration.
Instructional Items:
RTI PERIOD
We will begin our RTI period for grades k - 5 beginning next Monday, October 28th from 8:15 to 8:45 am (except for grade or classes who have approval to conduct RTI at another time). All out of classroom providers have been assigned classes to support during this intervention time as per the link below.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Owajx2dAtGB-keHoGPc83Z65f8gAzvFXHXFHNCG6c2w/edit?usp=sharing
Grade Teams/teachers should begin using BOY data for ELA and math to craft small group instruction and create groupings using this worksheet (please make a copy before editing) https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WAJ9AbYeiyZES9-1HapDqJDEgfUzukLqTwykZ2w8S7U/edit?usp=sharing. Administration will be reviewing data with classroom teachers which will assist in the planning of targeted instruction during he RTI time and outlining how specialist scan support students at this time. All grades will begin with ELA for RTI instruction.
Once groupings are established, it is important that you and your teaching partner meet regularly to create and review a plan of action to tackle your student's instructional needs in both ELA and math. Meeting on Tuesday's during other professional work time will allow you to craft instructional structures, outcomes and goals for your students. Please do use all currently available resources accessible to you to support your instructional groupings. Use this week and next to introduce the RTI sessions (for many of our students it will be a re-introduction) and work on the norms and structures for your classroom.
Instructional expectations for RTI block are:
a. Review lesson before teaching
b. Have resources outlined in lesson to support instruction
c. Create anchor charts to provide visual support (when needed*)
d. Institute and manage rotation schedule
*It is imperative that you have anchor charts where needed to support student comprehension and connection to the lessons being taught.
If you have any questions on the above or need support and/or guidance around the development of your RTI structure for your classroom please refer to the link below and/or reach out to the instructional coaches or administration.

Conferring
Conferring with our students is the most important work we can do in the classroom to meet their individual needs and differentiate instruction in order to help all students succeed. We have observed all of you have meaningful conversations with students. These conversations become “conferences” when we use them to teach students something specific, give them something to practice, and then follow-up on it. We need to document our work to ensure continuity and to measure growth. In order to monitor and track how students are progressing (Citywide Instructional Expectations dated conferring notes must be maintained. The content that must be included is, as follows:
• Date
Student’s Name
• For reading conferences-title and level of text
• For writing conferences-stage in writing process
• Student’s strength (only 1 at a time) noticed by the teacher
• Student’s area of need (only 1 at a time) noticed by the teacher
• Strategy provided by the teacher to the student to help him/her improve, aligned to area of need
• Next Steps for student
