WBL Student of the Month

Irelyn Gerow is the April work-based learning Student of the Month.  She is a senior at Schoolcraft High School and has taken both the CTE Business Management Administration and Accounting programs.

She is employed at Lane Bryant, where her supervisor Rachel Quinonez had this to say about Irelyn, “Irelyn has been a pleasure to work with. I have had nothing but good comments from guests and her co-workers. Her personality is really starting to come out with clients. She is a quick learner and able to adapt to the needs of the business.” Irelyn was chosen by Scott Wills because she seems to absolutely LOVE her job!  She immediately became a favorite of both co-workers and customers and even earned praise from the District Manager.

Irelyn' s favorite things about the WBL program are the people. Her future plans aren’t 100% certain; but, she is hoping to continue working at Lane Bryant while she earns an Associate’s Degree in Business.

Congratulations, Irelyn!

Teacher of the Month

Rob Ling, CTE Construction Trades Instructor, has been nominated by his students for April’s Teacher of the Month!

“He likes to joke around but always makes sure you know what you are doing and is there if you need to talk and is able to relate to his students.”

“He is a great teacher and makes sure you understand the work you are doing. He makes the activities fun and engaging.”

“They (Mr. Ling and Mr. McNees) really like what they do and they explain stuff till everyone understands it.”

Congratulations, Mr. Ling!

8th grade ELA students did final presentations for the novel, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, this week. There were 17 different projects to choose from and this counted as an assessment grade. Brock D. and Logan P. chose to share out a Book-in-a-Bag as one of their final projects. The last big project will be a research assignment where students will present information via a country fair on Wednesday, June 5th to grades 5 - 8. This year has been action packed with learning and we will be taking advantage of these last weeks in May and June!!!

Summer Programs for Teens

Whether it’s an overnight pre-college program, a local day camp, or a sleepaway adventure experience, summer programs for teens are great for pursuing new interests, improving existing skills, and making new friends outside of the classroom.

On this page, we’ve collected and curated some of the best summer programs for students in middle and high school. These one-of-a-kind programs come in all shapes and sizes — some are academically focused, others are skills-based, and still others are similar to a traditional summer camp experience. However, all of these programs offer vital enrichment opportunities for teens to expand their horizons.
