Sponsored by Memories Bridal & Evening Wear in partnership with Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan, The Cinderella Project of Kalamazoo is a one-day, annual event that provides free prom dresses and accessories to local high school students in need. Originally founded in 2007 as a partnership between Memories and The Junior League of Kalamazoo, each year The Cinderella Project gives away hundreds of beautiful dresses to help young girls’ prom dreams come true. Our goal is to make sure every young lady who wants to attend prom has the opportunity to do so no matter what her personal or financial hardships.

This year’s dress giveaway event will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024, from 11 am-6 pm at The Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan Program and Training Center at 601 W. Maple, Kalamazoo.

IMPORTANT: THIS EVENT IS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.  SPACE WILL BE LIMITED AND WALK-INS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE.  Appointments can be booked using the button below beginning Friday, March 1, at 5 pm.  (Do NOT use the appointment tab at the top of the page.)

The Eagle Elite Robotics season is underway. Our challenge this year is called Crescendo. Our robot will need to pick up, and shoot notes into a stereo or amplifier, as well as hang from a chain at the end of the match. Our first competition is March 8-9 in St. Joseph, and our second competition is March 15-16 in Ann Arbor. We would love to have you come watch and learn what FIRST Robotics is all about!

8th Grade ELA News

In 8th grade ELA, our visiting artist came in again to do a guided look with students. The work of art is titled "Fact and Fiction with Todd Zimmerman". We have our visiting artist one more week this year to wrap up lessons with the students surrounding this work of art. Please be sure to ask your child about the artwork each has created and the interactions that have taken place around this experience. Art and ELA are deeply connected and I am thankful for this experience to bring art into the classroom for the 8th graders to get some exposure!!

MARCH IS READING MONTH!!!!


To kick off March as Reading Month, the 8th graders have been paired up with the little people at the Elementary. This opportunity provides a benefit for both 8th graders and their Reading Buddies with the interaction of text, modeling, cooperation, sharing a love of reading, and more!!! I'm not sure who was more excited after our first trip over.... the 8th graders or the 1st graders in Ms. Desmond's Class! Stay tuned for more pictures throughout this month while we celebrate a love of reading and celebrate our student interactions!!!

Summer Programs for Teens 

Whether it’s an overnight pre-college program, a local day camp, or a sleepaway adventure experience, summer programs for teens are great for pursuing new interests, improving existing skills, and making new friends outside of the classroom. 

On this page, we’ve collected and curated some of the best summer programs for students in middle and high school. These one-of-a-kind programs come in all shapes and sizes — some are academically focused, others are skills-based, and still others are similar to a traditional summer camp experience. However, all of these programs offer vital enrichment opportunities for teens to expand their horizons. 

MEC SCHOLARSHIPS

High School Seniors: Complete a video challenge by March 18, 2024, and you could earn $1,000 towards your post-secondary education.

If your family receives monthly service from Midwest Energy & Communications (MEC) at your primary residence, you are eligible to apply. Selection for the scholarship is based on the video submission along with academic performance, extracurricular activities, community involvement and/or employment, and honors and awards. A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a four-point scale is required, and an official transcript must be submitted for final approval.

Prospective Educator Scholarship

This scholarship awards up to $1,500 scholarship(s) each year to a high school or undergraduate student seeking a career in education.

SET SEG SKILLED TRADE SCHOLARSHIP

The SET SEG Foundation believes in supporting Michigan public school students in the pursuit of enrichment opportunities that advance learning and create opportunities. With the shortage of skilled trade workers in Michigan, we want to help revitalize these career paths and support students in their professional pursuits by giving 20 scholarships each in the amount of $500.

The Mary J. Szczepanski “Never Give Up” MS Scholarship Foundation is starting its 24th year and offers annual scholarships to seniors at Catholic Central, Covenant Christian, Kenowa Hills and Northview High Schools in the Grand Rapids, MI area for creatively raising funds for Multiple Sclerosis. In the fall of 2008, all United States high schools and all United States universities in 2010 were invited to participate. This extraordinary program has touched the lives of many people in our communities across the United States and is constantly raising awareness of this terrible disease. 

Lloyd F. Hutt Scholarship

Established in 1990, this scholarship program honors the legacy of Lloyd F. Hutt – teacher and founder of LMCU. Each year, we establish a prompt for high school seniors to write about in the form of an essay and award twenty (20) $2,000 scholarships. We are proud to have provided over $540,000 in scholarships to 312 deserving students over the years.

KCCU scholarship

Kellogg Community Credit Union is committed to improving the financial lives of our members. We recognize the value of education and support the educational goals of our members through our scholarship program.

KCCU will award ten (10) $1,000 scholarships to students who demonstrate good character, citizenship and leadership.

Michigan Achievement Scholarship

Students and their families looking to secure more financial aid for college are encouraged to register for an informational webinar about the Michigan Achievement Scholarship, which is the newest State of Michigan scholarship program expected to impact the majority of students.

KVAAP- Kalamazoo Valley Accelerated Associate Program 

What is KVAAP?

The Kalamazoo Valley Accelerated Associate Program (KVAAP) is an initiative that covers the cost of tuition, fees, books, and required supplies for its participants. The program ensures that students stay on track to obtain their associate degree at an accelerated pace by attending school full-time. In addition to financial assistance, KVAAP students benefit from advising, personalized support, career development, and educational pathway assistance.

What is Grad Bash?

Grad Bash is an event (location is always kept secret) planned by parents to help seniors celebrate graduation in a drug and alcohol-free environment. All seniors who want to attend Grad Bash must earn points by volunteering at fundraiser events, or buy out. More information regarding the dates and times of Grad Bash will be released in the spring. Please contact a board member for more information.
