Schoolcraft Bands Have a Successful Week at Band Festival
The High School Band had a wonderful performance on Friday March 10th at the MSBOA District XI Band Festival. The band earned a Superior Rating, with First Division Ratings from all four of the adjudicators! This is the third year in a row and the fifth time in the last six years the High School Band has earned this honor. The results qualify the Band for the State Band Festival held at the end of April.
Another congratulations to our 7/8 Grade Band on a fine festival performance. After having to cancel our performance last week due to the weather we were able to secure a makeup performance at Sturgis High School on Thursday, March 16th. The band earned a Division Two (Excellent) Rating for their concert performance and a Division One (Superior) in Sight Reading.

The State tournament is happening March 24-26 at Wings Stadium for anyone who would like to cheer them on!
Pretty Lake Adventure Camp is currently looking to hire high school students (16 years old or older) for their different summer positions. Positions that high schoolers can apply for include working in the kitchen, becoming a lifeguard, and working as a laundry liaison. They have many spots open and are willing to pay for lifeguard certification. Students that are usually a good fit for Pretty Lake enjoy working with children, working outdoors, and love to have fun. The SET SEG Foundation is awarding 65 full scholarships to Michigan public high school students to attend the MASC/MAHS Summer Leadership Camp at Albion College during the week of July 16–21.
Who Is Eligible:
Students in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 in fall 2023.
If students received a SET SEG scholarship in the past, they’re still eligible to apply!

Camp attendees will meet student leaders from all over Michigan to participate in interactive lessons in communication, goal-setting and group dynamics. Originally founded in 2006 as a partnership between Memories and The Junior League of Kalamazoo, each year The Cinderella Project gives away hundreds of beautiful dresses to help young girls’ prom dreams come true. Our goal is to make sure every young lady that wants to attend prom has the opportunity to do so no matter what her personal or financial hardships.
Our 2023 Dress Giveaway Event will be held on Friday, March 24, from 11am-6pm at the Girls Scouts Heart of Michigan Program & Training Center, 601 W. Maple Street, Kalamazoo, MI. IMPORTANT: THIS YEAR’S EVENT IS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. SPACE WILL BE LIMITED AND WALK INS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE. Appointment booking for our 2023 giveaway event will begin on this page at 5pm on February 20, 2023.
We operate on the honor system, so no proof of financial need is necessary. Please bring a valid school ID (or proof of enrollment) as this event is only open to currently enrolled HIGH SCHOOL students. All participants must reserve an appointment and must attend in person to receive a free dress. Each appointment time can serve up to 2 girls (must share a dressing room if booking together). Limit 1 guest per participant.

MIDDLE SCHOOL TRACK
Attention 6,7,8 graders interested in running track. Practice starts March 20 at 3:15 at the track. Coach Flynn will hold a meeting on March 15 at lunch with the 6th graders & March 16 at lunch with the 7th and 8th graders.
Grade 7/8 Yearbooks are now on sale!
The yearbook is 40 pages of memories for the 7th and 8th-grade students. The cost of the yearbook is $15.
The Junior High Yearbook needs your pictures! We are currently collecting pictures of ski club. If you have any photos of 7th or 8th grade students at ski club, please share them with Mrs. Lynch for consideration for the yearbook at lynchk@schoolcraftcs.org

Noodles and Company is on the menu! Tuesday, April 25 from 4-8 pm at Noodles and Company at 6150 S Westnedge Ave, Portage, MI 49002. Please invite your friends, family, and neighbors! (This is not a point-earning event)
Reminder about the deadline for Grad Bash participation: the end of April is the deadline to get to 5 points. If lacking points, students can pay the balance of, $60 per missing point. For example, if a student has 3 points and needs to make up points the balance due will be $120.
Please email projectgradshs23@gmail.com if you have questions. We really need to know if students do not plan on going on the trip. We need a hard count for transportation and event planning.
One final ask to our entire Schoolcraft Schools community. We are going to be hosting an on online auction fundraiser and are looking for donations of baskets, gift certificates, or anything! Please email projectgradshs23@gmail.com if you would like to donate. Also, a donation of a basket for the Online Fundraiser will earn a student a point!

The local scholarship packets are now available for all seniors. They are located in the guidance office on the counter. They are due NO LATER than April 25th. This a great chance to earn some extra money towards your college tuition!

Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced that the high school graduating Class of 2023 can apply for the Michigan Achievement Scholarship and lower their cost of college by thousands of dollars a year. Students should talk to their parents or guardians, gather documents, and fill out their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible in order to take advantage of this scholarship opportunity. Starting with the high school Class of 2023, students will be eligible for more financial aid from the State:
Up to $2,750 if they attend a community college, per year
Up to $5,500 if they attend a public university, per year
Up to $4,000 if they attend a private college or university, per year
Students will be eligible if their family demonstrates financial need* when they complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
*Financial need is defined as an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $25,000 or less.
High school seniors can get started by following these steps:
File the FAFSA.
Create a MiSSG Student Portal three to five business days after filing your FAFSA.

What is Pathfinder and how do I use it?
To address the need to increase the number of Michigan residents with high-quality, in-demand degrees and credentials, the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity’s Office of Employment and Training (LEO-E&T) is proud to share the creation of an online career planning tool.

Financial aid award letters can oftentimes be difficult to understand. That is why MI Student Aid has developed the Understanding Your Award Letter web page!

Participants will be able to:
Gain a better understanding of how to approach comparing multiple college financial aid award letters
Utilize online tools to help you make the best financial decision
Better understand the individual awards offered and applicable requirements of scholarships, grants, and Federal loan options

Michigan Retailers Foundation, established in 1968, provides college scholarships annually to benefit retailers and their employees and families. The foundation is a nonprofit educational organization established by MRA. Donations are tax deductible. View the list of MRA Foundation donors.
MRA’s college scholarship competition begins in January each year. Applications are due by April 1. To be eligible, the student applicant or a parent or guardian must work at a business that is a member of MRA. High school seniors and college freshmen, sophomores and juniors may apply.
Twelve awards worth $3,500 will be given out in 2023. Financial need is not a consideration.

SET SEG SKILLED TRADE SCHOLARSHIP
The SET SEG Foundation believes in supporting Michigan public school students in the pursuit of enrichment opportunities that advance learning and create opportunities. With the shortage of skilled trade workers in Michigan, we want to help revitalize these career paths and support students in their professional pursuits by giving 20 scholarships each in the amount of $500.

U.S. Air Force Recruiters will be visiting on November 30th from 11:08-12:43 outside the cafeteria.
U.S. Navy Recruiters will be visiting during lunch on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 11:08-12:43 outside the cafeteria.

Ages 5-19. No previous experience needed.

Volunteer buddies available to assist players.
We are looking for volunteers to serve as coaches and buddies for Miracle League games!
Buddy qualifications:
Assist the player by holding their hand, pushing their wheelchair, or helping them in whatever capacity they need help
Protect the player at all times
Allow the player as much freedom to play their own game as possible
Ensure the player has fun
Have good spirit, enthusiasm, love, attitude, and concern in motivating the player and their families
Age requirement is 14+ (exception: if buddy is a player’s sibling, must be 10 or older)
