Goals and objectives for Virtual School
To provide an alternative to the traditional setting for students who will be successful in an independent learning environment.
To provide an option for families who would prefer a completely virtual option for learning during the 2021-22 school year.
What Virtual School is not:
A credit recovery program.
A short term solution for learning. Students/families should plan on committing for at least the semester. Building counselors would work with students to navigate this change.
Introduction to Online Learning
Two key advantages of online learning are flexibility and convenience. However, online learning is a lot more challenging than it may seem. In reality, online courses require just as much, if not more, time and energy as traditional classroom courses. It also requires specific computer skills and learning strategies in order to succeed. Online learning transfers much of the responsibility of learning to the student. That is, students will need self-motivation, time-management, and strong communication skills in order to be successful. For K-5 students there is an at home learning coach component required as well.
