- With Google Sites -
Web Design is a graphical way to communicate over long distances using the web. The internet is what connects all websites together. Web sites can be used for all sorts of communication purposes, from spreading the news, to sharing photos, and sharing your views, amongst others. Not everything you find on the internet is fact. There is very little control over what can be posted on the web.
Below are the steps for creating a web site using Google Sites.
Here is a sample portfolio (in progress): Mr. Gilbert's Portfolio
From Class Link go to Google Apps then Google Sites.
Select New Google Sites
Select the add new site button
Type in your portfolio / page title as your username's Portfolio.
(Example: Mr. Gilbert's Portfolio)
Remember its a title, so capitalize.
Type in your site name. Use your username for this. Do not use symbols, only letters, numbers, and spaces.
Type here to add the page name. Use your username for this. Do not use symbols, only letters, numbers, and spaces.
Select Publish.
At the end of the site location type your username. Make sure the radio button is checked for people at scfschools.com to view your site. No other buttons or check boxes should be checked. Then click Publish.
The body area of the webpage can be edited by double clicking on it. When this happens the insert wheel will appear and you can select your editing options. Most editing functions are "drag & drop." Double clicking on the header will allow you to edit the header as well. If you hover over the header options will appear that will allow you to change the header type or insert an image for the header.
You can manually access editing options from the tabs to the right of the header. The insert menu gives you greater options for inserting object. Changing the theme of the website can be accomplished by selecting the theme tab.
Don't forget to publish your work when finished, or changes will not be seen by others and may become lost.
