In order to start a new graphic in any program there are a few things you need to set before you begin to draw the graphic. The examples used here are for Adobe Photoshop, but other programs would have similar arrangements. Adobe Photoshop can be found under the windows Icon in the bottom left corner of the desktop.
Starting a new graphic in Adobe Photoshop
Open the graphics application
File - New Image
Set the image size & resolution
1.) Set the units to inches or pixels depending
upon the project requirement and application
2.) Set the resolution (pixels per inch)
based on the application.
3.) Enter the image width
4.) Enter the image height
5.) Enter the image color type (if available)
6.) Click "Create" or "OK"
Save the image for the first time
When saving images always set these three properties
File Name
File Location
File Type
Click: File - Save
1.) Navigate to your desktop.
(where to save)
2.) Open the folder titled with your name.
(your sever folder)
3.) Open "my pictures"
4.) Enter the file name (what to save)
5.) Pick the file type based on the
project requirement, usually gif, jpg, or bmp.
6.) Click “Save”
Begin Editing
Using the tools in the tool boxes, edit your pictures.
Tool Descriptions can be found in the Help menu.
Save every 5 to 10 minutes to avoid losing your work.
Finished editing for the class period
1.) Save the image
File - Save
2.) Close the program
File - Close
3.) Log off the computer
