Our resource room provides an alternate setting from the regular classroom where students with IEPs can access a quiet work space. Here, students can receive shared support from a resource teacher to complete daily work and assignments, request to write quizzes, tests or exams with fewer distractions, or simply access a calm space when a break is needed. Students’ SEA equipment (laptops, Chromebooks, FM systems, etc.) is also stored here and can be signed out daily. Students with Individual Education Plans in the regular classroom working toward a high school diploma can have their accommodations met through support from the resource room.
Our Learning Centre program is a partially integrated program where students work on basic literacy and basic numeracy skills with a dedicated resource teacher and educational assistant for up to 51% of their school day. Eligible students would have language and math abilities within the Kindergarten to grade 3 range. Students are recommended for this program based on diagnostic testing in their grade 8 school year and placed through an IPRC meeting. Students are also integrated into regular classes in areas of interest and may achieve high school credits. Graduates of our Learning Centre program typically achieve a Certificate of Achievement.
Our Life Skills programs are designed to support students with specific learning needs, that can include daily living skills, personal hygiene, personal safety, self-regulation skills, social skills, basic literacy and basic numeracy skills. There is a maximum of 10 students in these classrooms and a dedicated team of educational assistants and a teacher who work in this self-contained environment. Students enrolled in our Life Skills program, have learning expectations and goals at the pre-kindergarten level. They may attend high school until June of their 21st birthday and upon graduation, achieve a Certificate of Accomplishment. Eligibility for this program is determined through our school board’s Identification, Placement and Review Committee (IPRC) process and enrollment takes place centrally through the school board.
