Welcome to the GBDSS Science Department!
Our science classes are hands-on. We aim to inspire students and to encourage them to question assumptions about the world around them. We strive to help students cultivate a lifelong passion for science, starting with excellence in academics that prepare our students for a variety of post-secondary pathways.
Two of our Science courses are only offered at GBDSS, out of all SCDSB secondary schools.
Those are Environmental Science of Climate Change and Forensics & Biotechnology. Wow!

GBDSS is excited to add PCR technology to the science department.
The Forensics and Biotechnology class will be including hands-on experience with PCR DNA technology and Gel Electrophoresis this year, as we add a mini-PCR thermocycler to the GBDSS Science department.
PCR stands for Polymerase Chain Reaction. This is a DNA amplification technique, and is the same kind of technology that is used for COVID testing!
