A major draw for our program is the Specialist High School Major Program in Communications Technology as we are one of two schools in the Simcoe County District School Board that offer it. This provides students the opportunity to earn a red seal on their diploma which will make it easier for them to get into their desired university/ college. The program is designed to provide the students will real hands-on opportunities that will aid them in their future careers. It provides the funding so students of every background and social status can take part. We are able to add new equipment because of the additional funding.
This year we added drone training and drones to one of the potential certifications that students can earn.
If your son or daughter has an interest in computers, photography, videography or anything related to those fields send an email to jhpoulin@scdsb.on.ca and additional information can be provided.

The SHSM allows students to focus on a career path that matches their skills and interests while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Students receive the SHSM seal on their diploma when they:
complete a specific bundle of 8-10 courses in the student’s selected field (4 major ICT credits, 2 English credits, 1 Math credit, 1 other credit)
gain important skills on the job with actual employers - cooperative education (2 credits)
earn valuable industry certifications including First Aid and CPR qualifications.
The SHSM is designed to help students transition from high school into an apprenticeship, work place, college, or university program.
Customize their secondary school education to suit their interests and talents. Develop specialized knowledge and skills. Earn credits that postsecondary educational institutions and the sector recognize. Gain sector-recognized certification and career-relevant training. Develop essential skills and work habits documented through the Ontario Skills Passport. Identify, explore, and refine career goals and make informed decisions about their future. Remain flexible, with the option to shift between pathways, should their goals and plans change.
