Per Iowa Code 261E.3 and 281—IAC 22.4(1), all eligible students in grades 9–12 may take part in Senior Year Plus programs, including Concurrent Enrollment and Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO).
Concurrent Enrollment
College-credit courses offered through a partnership with a community college. These may be taught at the high school, at the college, or online, and are open to eligible students who meet placement and prerequisite requirements. While students may take multiple courses, concurrent enrollment courses are intended to supplement a student’s high school schedule, not replace it with a full college course load.
Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO)
PSEO allows 11th–12th grade students, and eligible 9th–10th grade TAG students, to take college courses not otherwise available at their high school. These may be taken online or in person at the college. While students may take multiple courses, PSEO is intended to supplement a student’s high school schedule, not replace it with a full college course load.
South Central Calhoun Academic Eligibility Requirements to Take College Coursework:
Students taking general education/liberal arts courses must have a GPA of 2.8 or higher
CTE (welding, automotive, nurse aid) courses do not have a GPA requirement but students must be on track to graduate from SCC to be able to fit some of these in their schedule
High school students enrolled in college-level courses through concurrent enrollment or PSEO must meet two (2) criteria to remain in good academic standing with the college(s):
Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
Satisfactorily complete at least 67% of all attempted college credits
Failure to meet either of these requirements may impact a student’s ability to enroll in future college courses and/or affect financial aid eligibility after high school graduation.
While transportation to college courses is not guaranteed, the district will make every effort to provide it when possible. Transportation services will be limited to DMACC courses held in Carroll and will not be available for ICCC courses in Fort Dodge.
These courses allow students to earn both high school and college credit at no cost, with no textbook fees unless the student chooses to keep the book. There is no limit to the number of courses a student may take, as long as all eligibility and readiness requirements are met. Our top priority is ensuring that every student is on track for high school graduation.
