Happy September!
So far this school year has been one of changes and colds for middle school. I am finally to the point of feeling caught up enough and well enough to post updates. The 6th graders seem to have adjusted to switching classes, and all of middle school have adjusted to new teachers and the rigor that comes with them.
The first three weeks have been full of STAR and NWEA testing. Today the students are taking their last NWEA. Starting tomorrow, students who were absent will be making up any missing tests.
For 7th and 8th grade, Michigan Virtual has gotten off the ground with their fall course, Digital Citizenship. If your child was having access issues at first, all of that should be worked out by now. Let me know if you have any questions.
By the end of the week, all core subjects should have at least one grade entered. For the rest of the semester, grades will be updated at least once each week. Please check your students' grades as often as you like!
In Literature/Reading, the following due dates apply for AR:
September 12th- historical fiction or nonfiction
September 26th- classic (a book originally printed in 1990 or earlier)
October 17th- all points due (20 for 6th grade, 25 for 7th grade, and 30 for 8th grade)
If your child gets at least 50 points by October 17th, he or she will receive a reward.

Hello! It was great seeing so many parents and students at Back to School night. If were unable to attend, I will be sending home the same information with your child on the first day of school. Some papers do need to be signed and returned to me as soon as possible.
I am very excited about our Reading groups this year. These groups have been arranged based on reading levels as of last May. They will meet every afternoon to go over reading assigned based on capabilities. These groups were made to ensure every child has the chance to learn and grow at his or her own skill level, instead of always being in a classroom with peers based on age alone.
Seventh and eighth graders also have the opportunity to take Spanish 1 through Michigan Virtual this year. This is a new experience for all of us, so bear with me as I learn the ropes of being a mentor in this program.
