Support our library and the PTA by selecting a book to celebrate your child this year.
Greenacres Celebration books FAQs
Why are you doing this?
This idea has been adapted from Quaker Ridge Elementary School, as an opportunity for parents and the school to celebrate their children, through a simple book donation to the Greenacres School library.
How does it work?
Parents go to the PTA site to complete the information and make the $20 donation per child. Parents will select:
the book that they wish to donate from this site (see links above)
how they would like their child’s name to appear in the book
what celebration this is for
what month the celebration will occur
The PTA will order the books from our local Scarsdale bookstore, Bronx River Books, where they will be transported directly to the school.
The Greenacres school library will receive the books, stamp the inside of each one and write your child’s name as preferred. Our librarian, Ms. Thomas, will make a display each month for all of the celebrations that month. During the class library visits, the kids who are being celebrated can talk about their books, and they will have the opportunity to be the first ones to check out their book. After that, the book will continue to live in the library for other students to read, appreciate, and share.
How was the book selection chosen?
The celebration books that are on this site (see links above) for selection are based on book requests from students, and books which the library would like to acquire. As books are selected, Ms. Thomas will manage the site, by removing books already donated, and adding more books for donation.
What if I would like to donate a particular book that is special to my family that is not on the site?
This is likely fine! If you have a specific suggestion of a celebration book, please reach out to Ms. Thomas as jthomas@scarsdaleschools.org.
What if I would like the book choice to be made for me?
We offer a surprise option! Ms. Thomas is happy to make a thoughtful book choice for your child!
What qualifies as a celebration? Does it have to be my child’s birthday?
We want to be inclusive of all types of celebrations! Celebrations might include: a birthday, a family holiday, doing well in a special game, match or tournament, a cultural event or holiday, a music recital, a sibling or pet joining the family, a theater performance, a great report card or any other reason! No celebration is too small!
When do I need to make my donation in time for my child’s celebration month?
People can purchase celebration books for any month of the year in 2026. Please make your purchase by the 14th of the month prior to the celebration month. For example, if the celebration month is March, please make your purchase by Feb 14th or any time before.
My child’s celebration is coming up in January. When should I make my order?
Starting in December, the PTA will receive orders on an ongoing basis. If you would like your book to arrive by the beginning of January, please make your order no later than the 14th of December.
What if I missed that deadline? Can I still order?
If your book arrives during the celebration month, Ms. Thomas should be able to add it to the celebration display. However, if it is late, it will need to be saved for a different month or year.
However, keep in mind that in July and August, since school is out, we won’t be doing any celebrations or displays. But the library may do a summer display in June for all the summer celebrations, or families can choose celebrations that do not occur during these months.
Can I buy multiple books for different celebrations?
As this is a new initiative, we’ll start with only one donation per child. However, you can inscribe the name in the donation to more than one child if you choose.
What if I need to make any changes to my order?
