Spanish, Level 1

Course Description

¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español! Our main goal is to get you to understand and speak a new language. So don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Everyone does!


As a student, you will be expected to:

  • Memorize vocabulary terms presented in each section.
  • Master grammar concepts.
  • Speak in the target language during immersion.
  • Maintain behavioral class expectations.


Pre Requirements

  • C or better in Language Arts & Spanish


Materials Needed

  1. Personal earbuds or headphones
  2. A pencil or pen
  3. Binder for handouts & notes

Grading Policy

Students must pass all standards with a C or higher in order to pass the class.


90-100 A

80-89 B

70-79 C

69-60 D

59 and below - Incomplete/F


In order to take a standard, you must pass the corresponding vocab and grammar quizzes.


Grading Evaluation

60% - Unit Tests (Proficiencies)

10% - Quizzes (Formative Assessments)

20% - Homework/Personal Management

10% - Midterm/Final



Learning Targets for Level 1:

Semester A:

1.1 – Asking someone’s name, asking how someone is, introducing others, saying where you and other are from.

    1. – Giving phone numbers, the time, the date, and the day, spelling words and giving e-mail addresses.

2.1 – Describing people, asking someone’s age and birthday.

2.2 – What you and others like & describing things.

3.1 – What you and others like/want to do


Semester B:

3.2 – Everyday activities and saying how often you do things.

4.1 – Talking about what you have and what you need for school, talking about classes.

4.2 – Talking about plans and inviting someone to do something.

    1. – Describing people and family relationships

5.2 – Talking about where you and others live, talking about responsibilities.


Re-take Policy

  1. After each unit test, you will have the opportunity to take a re-take. You will have one week following the unit test to take this re-take to show you are proficient. Additionally, you will have to complete a practice assignment before taking the re-take.
  2. One more test re-take opportunity will be given during midterms/finals to show you are proficient.




Proficiencies:

You must show you are proficient on each unit exam, by receiving 70 percent or better to receive credit for this course.
