John Frederick Seymour 1947-2020

John Frederick Seymour 1947 - 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad, John, in a tragic accident on September 3rd aged 73.

Beloved husband of the late Caroline, extraordinary father of Tom, Hannah, Rosie and Patrick. Adored grandfather of Kate, Sam, Will, Eddie, Sasha, Lily, Jonnie, Luke, Marcus and Pippa.

Dad touched so many lives and was proud to do so. His life as a farmer with the NFU, as a JP, as a rugby player, a mentor and most importantly a friend, will never be forgotten.

Funeral

Sadly due to current circumstances, we were unable to invite those outside immediate family to attend the funeral which was held at St Joseph's Church on Tuesday, 15th September 2020.

Memorial Service

It is our intention to hold a memorial service when the situation allows, most likely in 2021.

Please leave your details using the form below in order for us to contact you with an invitation when the time comes.

If you have any particular memories of Dad, or any other comments you'd like to share with us, please do feel free to add them in the comments section. It would be lovely to hear how others will remember him.

We'd also love to see any photos of Dad that you have. Please email them to johnseymourmemorial@gmail.com

Thank you for the condolences and kind words we have already received from the many of you that knew and loved him. They mean a great deal to us all.

Donations

In Dad's memory, we have set up a page for charitable donations to Farming Community Network (FCN) which you can find at https://www.justgiving.com/John-Seymour. The FCN is a voluntary organisation and charity that supports farmers and families within the farming community through difficult times.

The Skilbeck Family

I feel I speak for everyone that knew John. How saddened we are to loose a terrific guy and gentleman in such tragic circumstances, his smiling face and willing ways, will stay in our memories forever.

Our thoughts and prayers, must now be for his wonderful family he leaves behind .

God bless John , Rest in peace .

So many fun memories of Christmas parties with chickens in boxes, pony nonsense, pram races, dens in the pig sty, watching John calve cows, John towing us behind sledges up Hill road, fancy dress parties, picnics, shoots and drinks at The Black swan, motorbikes, puppies and family celebrations. Absolutely lovely man and gorgeous family. Lots of love to you all Sarah Lang xx

The first time I properly met John was within weeks of being appointed the new NFU Group Sec for Stokesley and it was at Todders 30th ( a long time ago! About 27 years ish ). He was at the time Chair of PLUE, NFU Council delegate and high up in NFU hierarchy. So for me he was very important and influential within the NFU, my employers of course.

I must therefore mind how I go I thought.

At Todders party there was a bouncy boxing ring with huge gloves and after several pints John offered me a fight in the ring which we duly did. We ended up rolling around in a drunken wrestle laughing our heads off. No need to mind how I go and a friendship was born.

Most people when they get to the higher echelons of an organisation can lose their sense of fun and perspective or their ability to be around for sound advice but not John. And that was just one example of the fun that has been had over the years ( I can still feel the JFS nip on the back of my legs from passing him the Swan!) He was able to combine the seriousness of high office and recognise key issues but never lost the ability to have fun.

Not everyone can do that.

Best

Greg
