Hello 3rd Grade!

Enjoy these activities below! Each week I will upload new lessons where you can sing, move around, be creative, and have fun!

***If you have a school recorder, please take good care of it so that at the end of the school year, it is in the same condition as when you got it. Using these instruments is a privilege! I know you will take care them so make me proud. :)

Week 8 - May 25 (Happy Memorial Day!)

Niguno Shel Yossi Dance!

Watch the first video to learn the different steps of the dance.
Find a partner at home and get your whole family dancing with you. The second video shows what to do if you're dancing with a partner.
Last video is just the music so you can practice the whole song!

Compare & Contrast

Watch both videos of different versions of Pirates of the Caribbean
Answer these questions after you have listened to both videos:
1. What instruments are being played in the videos?
2. Which version did you enjoy more? 2 cellos or the cello quartet (4 cellos)?
3. Why did you like that group better?
4. Which group sounded more intense? Why?
5. What do you think of each location for the videos?
6. Did the locations contribute to the feel of "pirates"?
7. Did you notice in the second video (with 4 cellos) what they are in? Is it really the inside of a ship? Or something else??? ;)

African Dance Lesson

Find enough space in your house where you can move around and dance with Rujeko, the dancer.

African Drum Lesson

If you don't have a drum, NO WORRIES!
Grab a pan, pot, empty trashcan...whatever you have in your house than can be used as a drum!

Week 2 - April 13

Recorders - Just G

Click on the link. https://musicplayonline.com/recorder/
Find the tab that says "Kit 1 Highlight" and click on it.
Click on the third song: "03. Just G" (Check the fingering chart from Week 1 to see how many fingers you need)

First time through: say the rhythm on Ta, Ti-Ti, Ta-ah, etc.

(TIP: There is a short intro before the song starts)

Second time through: sing through the song on the note G
Third time through: get your recorder out and try it!

(TIP: You need your thumb and 1st, 2nd, 3rd fingers down completely)

G and A Blues

Click on the fourth song: "04. G and A Blues"
- say rhythm
- sing on G and A
- play with recorder

(TIP: G is on a line and A is on a space)

The Sound of Spring!

Listen to the first 3:20 minutes of a famous piece by Antonio Vivaldi called Spring.
Answer the following questions:

a. I really liked __________________.

b. I did not like __________________.

c. I heard lots of sounds in the piece. Some of the sounds were like animals, such as ________________.

On a piece of paper draw what you hear. This can be animals, nature, scenery, etc. Make it colorful, just like the season...SPRING!

Dance!

Watch the first video (Bunny Hop Moves) and practice the moves with me.

2. Watch the second video (Bunny Hop Demo) to practice the moves with the music. Ask a few people in your house to join you!

3. Play the third video to practice the dance with the music! Have FUN :)

Week 1 - April 6

Review Rhythms!

Review the rhythms and the words we use for each.
Make sure your are confident with:

Ta
Rest
Ti-Ti
Ta-ah (2 beats)
Ta-ah-ah-ah (4 beats)

If you know these 5 rhythms well, you can continue.

Review Notes!

Review the 3 notes we have learned so far at school.

Study which line or space these 3 notes are found on. This is their home, always.
Study the fingering chart and review how many fingers you need for each note. Try to get as comfortable as you can with B, A, & G. You will be playing different songs using these notes.

Just B

***You need to keep track of which notes are A & B. So before you start, review where each home is.

(TIP: A is on a space, B is on a line)

***Watch out for the rhythms too! Keep counting in your head.
