In the World Language Department, ALL students will be exposed to a high level of proficiency in a world language. Our students will be Resilient as they encounter a rigorous Academic program that challenges them to be Independent critical thinkers, problem solvers, and strong communicators in real-world situations. Students will strive to be world-ready Digital-citizens who display Empathy and Respect to those people and cultures of the world language.
Philosophy
We, the staff of the World Languages Department of Somerset Berkley Regional High School, believe that students should begin learning a second language as early as possible. Our aim is to develop students’ communication skills of speaking, reading, listening and writing in a second language so that students can effectively communicate with members of diverse cultures. It is our expectation that students have the opportunity to explore, develop and express their creativity through various authentic performance assessments in the target language. We believe that by learning another language, our students will acquire a high level of linguistic and cultural proficiency, which will promote cultural awareness, empathy and respect in our students. Therefore, it is important to us that the communities of Somerset, Berkley and SBRHS embrace and support this philosophy for the benefit of their students.
