Mr. Thomas

"What should young people do with their lives today? Many things, obviously. But the most daring thing is to create stable communities in which the terrible disease of loneliness can be cured."

- Kurt Vonnegut

The Reason Why I Teach

As a child, I struggled in school. It didn't seem like teachers liked me, nor did I feel welcome in their rooms. I was lucky enough to have the support to make it though and I had a much better experience in college. Now, as a teacher myself, I strive to make a classroom environment I would've been welcome in. My teaching style is unorthodox, but also adaptive to my student's interests and hobbies. This unique environment helps students cooperate, build friendships and grow creatively.

Classes I Teach

- Art

- Sculpture

- World History

Art

Art class offers projects that display your unique point of view and creative skills. Art doesn't need to be perfect or professional, but it does require effort and dedication. We learn the Elements of Art, Principles of Design, and a host of basic drawing techniques that will improve any Artist at any skill level. On the side, we will also learn about Art History and the various techniques utilized by many famous artists.

Sculpture

Sculpture class offers a tactile experience where students can roll their sleeves up, dig in, get dirty and get creative. The class interacts with a variety of materials including wood, metal and clay on projects like spray paint stenciling and mobiles. Don't worry, we will also learn a healthy dose of Art history, just as Art Class does each year.

World History

Incoming freshmen will learn about the origins and progression of the various peoples of the world. From prehistoric river valleys to the modern era, Freshmen level world history covers it all. Our understanding of the past will shape our future. It's my hope to give students a strong basis of historical knowledge with which to build their own learning on in the future.

Art Club

The Art Club is a welcoming environment that furthers your experience as an artist. It also doubles as a hangout spot to have fun with other art enthusiasts. We meet twice a week, Monday's at lunch to watch classic cartoons and Wednesday's after school to make art as a group. Our projects are meant to further your interests into artistic topics and cultures. It also counts as an extracurricular!
