Welcome to the BA (Hons) Commercial Music Digital Showcase. The creative outputs presented below are derived predominantly from 3rd Year and 4th Year Honours projects, which have been selected to celebrate student success and creativity in the academic year 2022-23 so far.

COURSE DETAILS
The degree is aimed at songwriters, producers and DJs, and those wishing to run small record companies or to stage live events. You will work with UWS staff and visiting lecturers, who are themselves practising music industry professionals, and you'll make key contacts across the music industry.
Whether you are interested in a career in music promotion, tour management, sound engineering and production or performance, this degree will prepare you for success in the fast-changing modern music business.

Creative Research Project
Creative Research Project is a 60-credit module delivered across Trimesters 1 and 2 of 4th year/Honours year of BA (Hons) Commercial Music. The Creative Research Project provides students with the opportunity to develop a significant creative research practice output.
Projects fall into a range of disciplines including;

Production
Cultural Entrepreneurship
Participatory Arts
Creative Research Project is also intended to contribute to students general portfolio of work, encourage them to operate out with the cultural “mainstream” and to impress upon future employers the value of artistic creativity as one of the most important key skills.

Rebeka embarked on a DIY music campaign that saw her emulating the practices of a Commercial Music influencer. During this campaign she netted over 250k likes, and increased her engagement by over 1000%. Rebeka used this data to write and record her upcoming EP 'Fallin'. Matthew Gibb's All The Words I made For You is a collection of works Matt has written throughout the years. The album is an emotional journey of learning and growth throughout Matt's personal life and time at University. In 2022, Matt won the prestigious UWS Songwriting award and the featured song 'Upswing' on this album was the song that scooped him the prize.

'Lyrics for Life’ is a song-writing based community music project, built to support and assist recovering alcohol and drug addicts during their recovery journey through song writing and musical participation. The project allows the opportunity for participants to share and further sculpt their personal life story in to a song of their styling.
April's workshops lead to the completion of an EP of work, bringing these stories to life in collaboration with the participants.

centred on queer representation in the Scottish music industry, conceived and hosted by Ryver Wild.
Ryver says: 'Increasing LGBTQ+ representation in various fields, such as politics, the media, and the music industry, is crucial for the development of an inclusive and accepting society. By providing more opportunities for LGBTQ+ individuals, fostering inclusive cultures, and raising awareness, Scotland can work towards creating a society that fully recognises and supports its LGBTQ+ community.' With a focus on hybrid learning and the music industries becoming more digitised, AMP encourages students to develop their entrepreneurial skills by designing and implementing a successful music industry project. This module is a development of the creative skills and techniques required for a holistic / corporate approach to music product design and implementation, with an emphasis on the manifestation of a product and appropriate promotion to suit an opportunity students have identified in the marketplace.

Katelyn Baxter- Stuck in Glasgow Single Release Project
Katelyn Baxter is a 20-year-old singer-songwriter. Her music touches people’s deepest emotions and tugs on heartstrings with each lyric and chord.
With 4 self-released singles, Katelyn has had the pleasure of being played on national radio including BBC Introducing in December 2021 with her song, 'Can’t Keep Promises'.
Katelyn recently played “Doune The Rabbit Hole” festival on one of the main stages, and King Tut's for a singer-songwriter session during the summer of 2022. She also had the opportunity to play 2022 Eurogig at The 13th Note, Glasgow.

Chroma Kids: School Community Project
The main aim of this project was to engage young school pupils in music through means of learning to play a set of tuned percussion instruments known as boomwhackers. By doing this, they learned the fundamentals of music theory; the pitch of notes, rhythm, working together as a team and melodic structure. At the end of the eight-week lessons, the children were required to put on a live school concert to the rest of the school in the assembly hall!

'Her story-telling transcends through mature majestic songwriting, her ability to hold melodies right to the very last milli-second making her an unbelievably captivating artist. A truly awe-inspiring country pop artist who adds a healthy squeeze of both country and Scottish influences to her music.
A vocalist and songwriter so talented beyond her youth. Hailing from a small village in the south-western Scottish corner of Dumfries & Galloway, Kate Kyle has been blessed with a style and vocal tone so distinct, it sets her up beautifully somewhere between Kacey Musgraves, Eddie Reeder and Haim.
To celebrate this new release, Kate will host an intimate EP Launch at Mrs Greens Tea Lounge in her hometown Dumfries alongside musicians; Dave Bass, Jamie McLennan, and Ferg Henderson'

Songwriting skills Scotland is a project which was created in 2022 and focused on encouraging school children to collaborate and build the skills needed in order to write their own music.
Caldervale’s sessions resulted in a fully written Christmas song respectfully named, “sleigh ride in the stars.”
