Welcome to the BA (Hons) Commercial Music Winter Digital Showcase. The creative outputs presented below are derived predominantly from 3rd Year and 4th Year Honours projects, which have been selected to celebrate student success and creativity in the academic year 2021-22 so far.

COURSE DETAILS

The degree is aimed at songwriters, producers and DJs, and those wishing to run small record companies or to stage live events. You will work with UWS staff and visiting lecturers, who are themselves practising music industry professionals, and you'll make key contacts across the music industry.

Whether you are interested in a career in music promotion, tour management, sound engineering and production or performance, this degree will prepare you for success in the fast-changing modern music business.

Commercial Music 4th year

Creative Music Project

Creative Music Project is a level 10 Module, which encourages students to explore, develop and deliver an informed and substantial creative work. The module recognises the hybrid nature of BA (Hons) Commercial Music, providing an opportunity to produce work that develops the range of themes and skills previously explored through the optional and core modules of the degree working towards a fully realised expression of students personal and creative identity.

Projects fall into a range of disciplines including;

Creative Music Project is also intended to contribute to students general portfolio of work, encourage them to operate out with the cultural “mainstream” and to impress upon future employers the value of artistic creativity as one of the most important key skills.

Welcome to the user interface of augmented reality 'CONNECTICA'.

James O'Neill 'Popcorn Kidz'

Always make sure your children are SAFE when they are near the road and busy traffic. Teach them to cross with patience and to learn the signals of when to cross appropriately. This fun song is designed to teach children to prioritise safety when crossing the road. To stop, look and listen at all times and use the red and green man to cross the road when it is safe to do so. Here are the lyrics so you can sing along together.

Join Joe as he brings music making to Queens Park in Glasgow in a bid to find commonality, connection and community through sound.

Commercial Music: 3rd Year

Advanced Music Production

With a new focus on hybrid learning and the music industries becoming more digitised, AMP encourages students to develop their entrepreneurial skills by designing and implementing a successful music industry project. This module is a development of the creative skills and techniques required for a holistic / corporate approach to music product design and implementation, with an emphasis on the manifestation of a product and appropriate promotion to suit an opportunity students have identified in the marketplace.

'Rebeka' Emerging Artist Single Campaign

Rebeka embarked on a debut single release campaign. She wrote, recorded and produced her first single 'I Tried'- created branding and a social media following with a 600% increase on her starting numbers. She also co-ordinated a sold out, launch event where she raised over £1000 for Sistema Scotland, a local music charity. Visit Rebeka's Instagram here.

Artist Manager: Awkward Family Portraits

My dual artist management and record label project highlights Awkward Family Portraits. Awkward Family Portraits are a young, rising roots outfit from Glasgow embarking on their next phase with the release of their second album ‘Dear Old West’, which will be released on my own record label, Holy Smokes Records.

This release brings the band to a pivotal stage in their career. It marks a fresh and matured sound, with their best material yet, and is intended to elevate the band’s profile and build on their existing fanbase both in Scotland and in new territories throughout the UK and mainland Europe. I have and will continue to oversee every aspect of managing the release from ideation through planning and execution, including:

Developing and implementing marketing strategies
Overseeing PR campaign and communicating with an established network of press & radio contacts.
Finance management
Maintaining strong social media presence and developing online rapport with fanbase
Management of collaborative projects from ideation through planning and execution including complex budget management
Facilitating meeting, organising and liaising with a range of partners including the bands distributor, booking agent, promoters and more.

Noise Level collective is a platform to showcase the talents of female/trans/non-binary/queer DJs and give them and opportunity to enhance their career in the music industry. We professionally film DJs in a Club like setting and also host events in which we give the opportunity for these DJs to play at..
