Welcome to the BA (Hons) Commercial Music Winter Digital Showcase. The creative outputs presented below are derived predominantly from 3rd Year and 4th Year Honours projects, which have been selected to celebrate student success and creativity in the academic year 2021-22 so far.

COURSE DETAILS
The degree is aimed at songwriters, producers and DJs, and those wishing to run small record companies or to stage live events. You will work with UWS staff and visiting lecturers, who are themselves practising music industry professionals, and you'll make key contacts across the music industry.
Whether you are interested in a career in music promotion, tour management, sound engineering and production or performance, this degree will prepare you for success in the fast-changing modern music business.

With a new focus on hybrid learning and the music industries becoming more digitised, CMPD encourages students to develop their entrepreneurial skills by researching, devising and designing a creative music project. This includes researching and planning a project development proposal, analysis of case studies and the application of creative techniques to music and creative industries.
Once students design and present their business proposal, they begin the work of developing their product and analysing its success. Students create products such as self-managing artist campaigns, production companies, creative arts workshops, unique music brands, events, apps and artefacts. Below are examples of some of the works in progress.

"As part of my third year, I have decided to record, release and promote two new singles and help establish myself as a self-managing artist.
I have two tracks set up for release on all major streaming platforms. 'Venom' is due to come out on the 3rd of March 2022 and 'Quicksand' following soon after with a release on the cards late March/early April.
This project has allowed me to grow as an artist, through networking, gigging, writing and recording. I've been able to understand the inner workings of the music industry and put this into play within my own music.
I've also set up photoshoots, live sessions and a launch gig to help promote my new music and grow my audience. My lunch gig will take place at local music venue Harleys on the 25th of March and bring support from two CM 2nd year students Katelyn Baxter and Kate Kyle. I'll also have my amazing band mates and fellow CM students Adam Scott, Tom Pearsall and James Campbell backing me on stage! I'm hoping this gig will allow for me to network with new individuals and allow for a celebration of music to unfold."

My dual artist management and record label project highlights Awkward Family Portraits. Awkward Family Portraits are a young, rising roots outfit from Glasgow embarking on their next phase with the release of their second album ‘Dear Old West’, which will be released on my own record label, Holy Smokes Records.
This release brings the band to a pivotal stage in their career. It marks a fresh and matured sound, with their best material yet, and is intended to elevate the band’s profile and build on their existing fanbase both in Scotland and in new territories throughout the UK and mainland Europe. I have and will continue to oversee every aspect of managing the release from ideation through planning and execution, including:
Developing and implementing marketing strategies
Overseeing PR campaign and communicating with an established network of press & radio contacts.
Finance management
Maintaining strong social media presence and developing online rapport with fanbase
Management of collaborative projects from ideation through planning and execution including complex budget management
Facilitating meeting, organising and liaising with a range of partners including the bands distributor, booking agent, promoters and more.

Noise Level collective is a platform to showcase the talents of female/trans/non-binary/queer DJs and give them and opportunity to enhance their career in the music industry. We professionally film DJs in a Club like setting and also host events in which we give the opportunity for these DJs to play at..

Creative Music Project is a level 10 Module, which encourages students to explore, develop and deliver an informed and substantial creative work. The module recognises the hybrid nature of BA (Hons) Commercial Music, providing an opportunity to produce work that develops the range of themes and skills previously explored through the optional and core modules of the degree working towards a fully realised expression of students personal and creative identity.

Creative Music Project is also intended to contribute to students general portfolio of work, encourage them to operate out with the cultural “mainstream” and to impress upon future employers the value of artistic creativity as one of the most important key skills.

An exploration of how we interpret meaning through sound
Modulate is a conceptual EP which focuses on the perception of sound through music that can be perceived differently by different people depending on the environment, context and interpretation of the listening session. The overarching theme of the EP is perception, with each song tailored to create a sound that can be perceived differently depending on the variables and context in which it is listened to.
