A comprehensive school counseling program has been implemented for grades K-5 at John Glenn Elementary in the Savannah R-III School District. The goal of the counseling program is to address the needs of all students and maximize their potential. The counseling program consists of four components Counseling Curriculum, Responsive Services, Individual Planning, and System Support. Each of these components are outlined below.  

How do School Counselors help students?

Counseling Curriculum

The School Counseling Curriculum consists of structured developmental activities presented through classrooms and large groups. School Counseling Curriculum activities are delivered through classroom lessons and educational assemblies. 

Responsive Services

The purpose of Responsive Services is to work with students whose circumstances have the potential to interfere with social/emotional, academic, and career development. This includes services such as 

Individual Planning

Individual Planning helps provide educational goal setting and career exploration for students. Through Individual Student Planning, school counselors assist students with the transitions into kindergarten, grade to grade, elementary to middle school, and school to school.

System Support

The System Support component is implemented through activities such as program management, professional development, staff and community relations, consultation, committee participation, community outreach, and evaluation.
