The Department of Psychology was established in November 1989, and was the first Psychology department in Gujarat to implement new syllabus suggested by the UGC Curriculum Development Committee (CDC) Report. The founder head of the Department is Dr. D.J Bhatt and currently headed by Dr. M.D.Desai. The distinctive academic feature of this Department is that it offers Clinical Psychology as a specialty and adopts an inter-disciplinary approach in teaching and research due to which it has significantly contributed to the areas of Psychological Testing and extension activities. The Department is infra-structurally sound with facilities for seminars, audio- visual teaching aids, a well-equipped laboratory, a computer lab and WIFI enabled classrooms.

The Department offers full-time M.A. (4 semesters), M.Phil. (2 Semesters) and Ph.D. programs. It has 3 highly qualified and competent full-time faculties and 1 contractual faculty besides having a visiting teacher. The Department has to its credit more than 150 published research papers and 26 books till date. It has received about 20 national fellowships and 9 UGC minor research projects and 1 major research project completed by its faculty members. 56 researchers have been awarded Ph.D. till date.
