Mrs. Storms
Tamara Storms
Hi there! I'm Mrs. Storms. I have been teaching for 26 years in SAUSD, and this is my 16th year teaching at Middle College High School. I currently teach 9th grade English and journalism (grades 9-12). I am a Santa Ana kid! I grew up in Santa Ana, and I graduated from Saddleback High School (way back in the 80s!). After that, I went to UC Irvine where I earned a bachelors degree in English. I went to Concordia University to obtain my teaching credential, and I earned my masters degree in curriculum and instruction from Chapman University.
Subjects Taught:
English 9
English 9 is a one year course that focuses on reading and analyzing nonfiction and fiction, such as speeches, essays, short stories, poetry, plays, and excerpts of novels. The course provides practice with the writing process that emphasizes: pre-writing, drafting, sharing and responding, revising, editing, and publishing. Students respond to texts through speaking and writing, supporting their ideas with evidence. The writing component of the course will include multiple literary analysis essays and argument essays. The course also includes oral communication skills, vocabulary, and grammar. The ultimate goal of English 9 is to prepare freshmen for the expectations of college and career level reading, writing, and speaking.
Journalism
High school journalism is a one year course that is designed to teach students the practices required to be a reporter: the legal & ethical practices of journalists; research & reporting on real events and issues; writing articles for publishing; using multimedia; and using methods of publication including online and print formats. Students also learn to become media literate, civically engaged, and develop their voice and community awareness.
