Below is a summary of some of the most frequently asked questions for newly hired Classified Employees. Please see the Classified Personnel Agreement for more details and information:
Probationary Period – All new hires go through a six-month probationary period. After successfully completing the probationary period, employees receive a step increment effective the first day of the seventh month. For important details on this, please refer to Article 9.0 of the Classified Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Evaluations – Are done at three and six months of employment. For important details on this, please refer to Article 9.0 of the Classified Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Vacation – One (1) day is earned for each month an employee is scheduled to work, as long as the employee works 75% of the month. The number of vacation days earned for each month according to this schedule is as follows:
After 5 years of service, you earn 1.25 days per month worked.
After 10 years of service, you earn 1.5 days per month worked.
After 15 years of service, you earn 1.75 days per month worked.
After 20 years of service, you earn 2 days per month worked.
Employees on a work calendar that is less than 12-months may be paid out up to five (5) days of unused earned vacation at the end of a fiscal year (June 30). Other days are encouraged to be used on non-duty days.
12-month employees may rollover half of one (1) years’ worth of vacation to the following school year.

Sick Days – One (1) sick day is earned per month for each month an employee is scheduled to work, as long as the employee works 75% of the month. Unused sick days roll over year to year without a maximum limitation.

Bereavement Absence – employees may take up to three (3) days of paid absence for a local bereavement or up to five (5) days of bereavement for an out of state bereavement or if traveling more than 250 miles one way.
Bereavement is applicable to immediate family members such as, spouse, parents, stepparents, foster children, foster parents, legal guardians, children, grandparents, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sons and daughters-in-law, brothers or sisters, of the unit member or of the unit member's spouse, or any person permanently living in the immediate household of the unit member.

Emergency Absence – up to seven (7) days of accumulated sick days may be used for the purpose of an emergency or personal necessity. An emergency would indicate the presence of the employee was required.

Maternity Absence – for an absence due to pregnancy, please refer to Article 7.2.1 of the CBA.

Paydays (10th & 25th) 4 hours or more – employees who work more than four (4) hours per day are paid twice a month. Approximately 65% of an employee’s monthly salary will be paid on the 10th of the month and approximately 35% of an employee’s monthly salary will be paid on the 25th of the month.
Payday – (10th) less than 4 hours – employees who work less than four (4) hours per day are paid only once a month on the 10th of the month.
