Seventh grade is a very important year for you. It will serve as the foundation for the rest of your high school experience. What you learn in this class will help you succeed in the coming years. We will develop many important skills that will help you in school, in your everyday lives, and in your future lives as employees and citizens.
This year we will focus on:
Reading Comprehension
Writing (organization, supporting ideas, narrative)
Critical Thinking
Vocabulary and Grammar
Current Events
Accountability and Strong Work Habits
New Media and Technology
Students work is graded on a 0-4 scale. This is more oriented towards success, is easier to understand, and is more consistent than traditional 0-100 scales. The dreaded zero is also way less harmful to a student’s average. The junior high’s grading scale remains traditional so when report card time comes, scores will be calculated according to this scale.
Writing and revising are a vital part of ELA. If students are not satisfied with their grade, they can revise their work and resubmit it.
You will respect yourself, your classmates, faculty and staff, and school property. Teasing, interrupting others, laughing, and any other general rudeness will not be tolerated. We must all work together to create and maintain a healthy learning community. Everyone
deserves dignitiy.
You must accept the invitation to Google Classroom. I will keep this up to date with assignments, grades, and announcements. In the event that we need to pivot to remote learning, Classroom will be our central point for teaching and learning.
