Summary:
On January 16th shortly after the Santa Maria sank on December 25th 1493. Columbus and his crew set sail for home after a year of exploring. He will be forced to to return home with only two of his three ships, the Pinta and the Nina. His luck was not restored because on February 12th a severe storm hit the feat and the two ships were separated. Columbus was forced to continue on his journey. He reached the Azores and decided that the ship was in such disrepair that he needed to stop for repairs. After repairing the ship they limped into the Tagus river estuary and finally droped ancor in libson on march 4th 1493. They were shortly followed by the pinta who.
In my opinion Columbus day should not be changed to indigenous peoples day. It would be erasing history. In america there is a trend with erasing history for example the confederate statues being torn down in the south. there is a link to this below. If we were to change Columbus day's name we would continue down the path of erasing history. So in conclusion I believe that Columbus day should keep its name. There is a link on this below.
