Dante Alighieri was an Italian poet who wrote one of the most life changing books in the world. The book, The Inferno describes a round world with a place in the center, Hell. He describes the path where a man guides him to a cave to the gates. That is the beginning to this all around, spectacular book.
Alighieri was born in Florence (present Italy) believed around 1265. He claimed that his family is Roman, because he had relatives live there around 1100.
At age 12, he swore to marry Gemma di Manetto Donati, she was part of the powerful Donati family. when this was happening, he fell in love with someone else, Beatrice Portinari. A bit after their marriage, he had met with Beatrice again. He started writing for her, hoping to meet again. He had 3 children with Gemma (Pietro, Antonio, and Jacopo.)
Dante wrote the Inferno with 35 Cantos (chapters) all describing where in Hell they are. In Canto 35, it specifically describes the Center of it all. It has Lucifer, the angel who was one of the best, who rebelled all against god, as a giant menacing beast trapped, halfway deep in ice.
