Writing Portfolio

K-12 Rochester Writing Portfolios

Purpose: The purpose of the Writing Portfolio is to monitor a student’s writing progression. When two (or more) writing pieces are considered side by side, one should be able to see student progress. The purpose is not to compare students to one another; therefore, all students might not have the same writing samples in their portfolio.

With a continued focus on writing, we are striving to provide our students with a variety of writing experiences. The goal is to begin to represent a “range of writing” by collecting pieces that you believe characterize each student’s present level of performance (at that point in the year).

These portfolios should be regularly shared and calibrated with your grade-level/content teams to drive instructional decisions.
