Competencies:

Students are encouraged, for the entire year, to work to get a "P" or Proficient by re-doing labs, homework, activities, tests, and quizzes that they received a "PP", "NYP", or "IE" on.

Science Themes

September Themes: What is Science?, scientific method, writing and online research in science, and measuring (volume, mass, density, temperature)

October Themes: Measuring (volume, mass, density, temperature), Atomic Structure, States of Matter

November Themes: Finishing States of Matter, Physical and Chemical Changes, Conservation of matter

December Themes: Types of energy, Transferred and transformed energy

January Themes: Wave characteristics

February Themes: Electromagnetic Spectrum, Cells

March Themes: Cell Organelles, The Sun, Day & Night

April Themes: Sun Earth Moon System & Environmental science

May Themes: Continuing environmental science unit

This is the tentative schedule and does not include the two weeks taken for testing in the spring which will move the schedule. It also does not account for spending extra time delving deeper into particular topics throughout the year based on the needs of our students. If there is time at the end of the year, we will be doing a STEM unit!
