Information Literacy

Students are learning to become online detectives, so that they know how to navigate the internet when searching for information.

With all the information bombarding us and available to us online, we need to "have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information."

You've all heard of the Dewey Decimal System. You know, those numbers on the spine of your library book? Well here's a little review of how this famous system works:

Today - November 14, 2017

What is the biggest form of flattery?

A portrait of me, from a lovely student, of course! Drawn while attentively listening to yours truly reading "The Bolds" by Julian Clary to Mrs. Reeve's 4th graders during Library Special. "The Bolds" is one of the Great Stone Face Book Award nominees this year. Voting will happen in April 2018.

Second Graders Are Learning:

"Author's Purpose" What is this writing telling me?

  • WHY did Mo Willems write a book about a pigeon who wants to drive a bus? Because he wanted to ENTERTAIN people!
  • WHY has National Geographic write (publish) thousands of books about nature, animals, history, science and geography? Because people wanted to give other people INFORMATION on all of those subjects!
  • WHY did a famous donut shop (that's name rhymes with lunkin lonuts) write a commercial? Because they want to PURSUADE you to buy coffee at their business!

Start the slideshow to the right to see why author's write what they write.
