Learning in Nature

Look no further!

Nature Based Teaching and Learning is here in Portsmouth!

It is so exciting to share that Portsmouth now has a Nature Based Elementary Teacher, which means even more of our students will be learning outside and integrating nature into their school weeks throughout the year!

As we embark on this adventure together, please refer back to this site as a way to stay connected, learn more about ways to get outside, and to hear about some of the learning that is going on in our schools. You can stay up to date with what is going on outside in each season (phenology). Classrooms, projects, and teachers will be featured in the monthly newsletters for each school. There will be some outdoor challenges throughout the school year and links to cool outdoor places to check out around Portsmouth!

Meet Mrs. Goodwin

Hello Portsmouth!

I am so excited to be Portsmouth's Nature Based Elementary Teacher! I can't wait to collaborate with teachers and take our learning outside this year! I have been a first grade teacher at Dondero for the past ten years and have been integrating nature based practices within my classroom there. This year, I get to travel to all three elementary schools and use our beautiful outdoor spaces to learn more about what surrounds us and connect and learn with nature.

I love to learn new things, share my passions with those around me, and of course, to be outside!

Educators and parents and community partners can reach out to me at agoodwin@sau52.org with any wonderings or ideas as the year grows along. We have so many adventures ahead!
