Mission Statement
It is the mission of the school counselors in the Hollis Brookline School District to help students attain their maximum development intellectually, emotionally, socially, and physically in an environment of mutual respect and safety. The comprehensive guidance and counseling program includes program development, counseling and consultation, information services, student appraisal, and placement and referral services. Recognizing diversity and unique individual needs, the school counseling department work with students, teachers, and parents to initiate and coordinate student services designed to foster the growth of individuals who will become contributing and responsible members of society.
SCHOOL COUNSELING SERVICES
School counselors are available to all students to help with academic issues such as organization, time management, planning, etc., as well as with personal and social issues. Should you have any concerns or questions about your child's school experience we encourage you to contact your child's school counselor. School counselors also spend time in the classroom teaching about mental and emotional health, bullying, goal setting and career development. Student counselors are, along with the school administration, involved in the class scheduling process. Course placement is based upon teacher recommendation. If a student requests a course that is different from the teacher’s recommendation, a conversation with the student, teacher, and school counselor is recommended. If a change is still desired, a student and his/her parent may fill out an “override” form. Submission of this form does not guarantee enrollment in the requested course. Placement into the requested course is also based on availability and open seats.
