A committee for substance abuse and education

SPARK is a committee of administrators, teachers, counselors and students whose mission is to investigate, propose and create action plans in the areas of curriculum, messaging and programming in regard to prevention of substance use and abuse. Please refer to this page for information regarding coming events, activities and resources for both parents and teens relating to substance abuse prevention. 

Universal Screening

MHS is in the second year of implementing a universal screening program in the ninth grade related to the use of alcohol, marijuana and other substances. The goal of this program is to let the student know that we are available to reinforce healthy decisions and to assist them in obtaining support if needed for substance use related problems.

Partnership for Drug Free Kids:  The partnership is a drug abuse prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery resource existing to help parents and caregivers effectively address alcohol and drug abuse with their teens and young adults.

Community Action for Safe Teens (CAST):  Mission of CAST is to prevent substance abuse and promote healthy choices for youth in the Souhegan Valley.

Youth 

NIDI for Teens: The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) created this site for Teens to educate adolescents, parents and teachers on the science of addiction. 

The Cool Spot:  Young teens place for information on alcohol and resisting peer pressure 

Too Smart to Start:  A public education initiative sponsored by SAMHSA. Designed to educate youth about the harms of alcohol use and to support parents and caregivers as they participate in their children’s activities.

Just Think Twice:  A Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) resource for teens. 

Alateen:  Groups for teens whose lives have affected by someone else’s drinking.
