Astronomy

.50 credit/1 semester Prerequisite: 2 years of Science Grades 11‐12

The purpose of this course is to gain an understanding about our solar system, our galaxy, and the universe. The history of astronomy will be introduced, the concepts of modern astronomy will be reviewed, and the methods astronomers use to learn about the universe will be studied. Laws of motion and gravity will be applied to the movement of celestial bodies. Online tools will be used and current events will be discussed. Students will be expected to work collaboratively and independently on labs, activities, and projects. Relevant field trips will be an integral part of the curriculum.
