Teaching and Learning

Recommendation 1: Continue to implement a challenging and consistent K-12 curriculum that develops and leads to the successful achievement of the Exeter High School graduation competencies and promotes viable learning opportunities for each student

Recommendation 2: Continue to improve the consistency and relevance of K-12 assessment measures used to demonstrate student learning.

Recommendation 3: Create a unified report card for K-5, 6-8, and 9-12 that contains information on student performance in content knowledge, skills, and work/study practices.

Recommendation 4: Empower the professional staff within SAU 16 and the work of Professional Learning Communities (PLC’s) by providing a technology-rich infrastructure, common planning time, and supportive professional development to enhance the K-12 curriculum.

Health and Community

Recommendation 1: Create a committee of K-12 representatives to assess current schoolbased approaches to social and emotional learning and foster continuity throughout the grade levels. This committee should also evaluate the methods used to assess students’ stress levels and causes; ideally seeking feedback from students, parents, and professional staff.

Recommendation 2: Ensure that schools have the time and tools necessary, including training of professional staff, to provide social and emotional learning that is appropriate and meaningful for their students.

Recommendation 3: Create and maintain a SAU 16 website specifically dealing with social and emotional health issues, including resources for professional staff, students, and parents.

Recommendation 4: Expand and encourage more opportunities for career exploration at all schools.

Recommendation 5: Seek ways to bring the community into all schools and to bring the schools/students into the community. Create and maintain a community-wide database to provide contact information of local community members and/or businesses that are willing to visit the schools or to host students.

Recommendation 6: Promote and encourage civic-mindedness in order to empower all students to have a positive impact on the community at large.

Philosophy and Governance

Recommendation 1: Implement baseline K-12 district-wide survey(s) to all students, parents, faculty and staff to assess the culture and climate in each school.

Recommendation 2: Utilize the results of the survey(s) at the building level to develop an action plan to address issues or concerns identified. Depending upon the measures taken in the action plan, complete follow up surveys on an annual or biennial basis to assess the effectiveness of the action plan.

Recommendation 3: Build a collaborative pre-school model that allows SAU 16 to maximize current resources. Develop a cooperative agreement among the schools to provide consistent programming and appropriate cost sharing.

Recommendation 4: Explore the option of a later school start time, due to the positive effects it has on teen health, safety, and learning.

Recommendation 5: Continue to seek efficiencies among districts where mutually agreeable.

Recommendation 6: Employ a more rigorous and objective evaluation process during the pre-tenure period for professional staff and seek broader input into pre-tenure annual contract decisions.

Recommendation 7: Continue to grow and evolve the SAU coaching process for all professional staff. Recommendation 8: Modernize and optimize the hiring and review process of all employees.
