Literature Circles, Argumentative Writing, Poetry, Plot, Conflict, Theme, and Vocabulary are just a few of the things we will focus on this year in Language Arts. In alignment with the Common Core, we will also focus on citing textual evidence, and close reading strategies. Independent reading is required and will help to further develop and strengthen individual reading fluency and comprehension while enhancing critical thinking skills and a love for reading.
*Miss Gibson makes every effort to have all scores entered no later than two (2) weeks from the time of the assignment's due date. Please note that long-term writing assignments may take longer than two weeks to grade*
How will you be graded?
Students will always be graded out of 100 points; however, the weight of assignments will vary. Tests, projects, and major writing assignments will be weighted 35%, quizzes will be weighted 25%, reading responses, literature circles, and other short-term writing assignments will be weighted 20%, and homework and classwork will each be weighted 10%.
Late & Make-Up Work
Absence - Students are responsible for making up all missing assignments. Absent assignments will be entered as a score of 0% until those assignments are completed. Students have the number of days absent to complete work. Once completed, full credit may be earned.
Late Work - Students are responsible for making up all missing assignments. Work not turned in on the due date will receive a score of 80%. Partially-completed work will receive a score of (up to) 90%.
I am available for extra help every Tuesday morning from 7:10 - 7:40 or by appointment.
